Aloha Festivals Falsetto Contest Winners Vol. 6
Hawaiian falsetto singing (leo ki`eki`e) is one of Hawai`i's greatest contributions to musical culture. As part of the Aloha Festivals celebration, four friendly and tremendously enjoyable falsetto competitions occur annually: Hawai`i Island's "Kindy" Sproat Falsetto and Storytelling Contest, Maui's Richard Ho'opi'i's Leo Ki'e Kie Falsetto Contest, and O`ahu's Falsetto Contest and the newest - Kauai's Falsetto Contest. The winners of each event earn a Hula Records recording contract. The contests and recordings are integral in keeping the art of falsetto alive. Aloha Festivals Falsetto Contest Winners Vol. 7
This seventh CD in our series pays tribute to the enormous contribution paniolos have made to Hawaii's musical and cultural landscape. This CD is dedicated to Clyde "Kindy" Sproat, a National Heritage Fellowship Award-winner, who loves music and storytelling. Benson Kam of Kailua-Kona won the 2005 "Kindy" Sproat Falsetto and Storytelling Contest on Hawai'i. Ni'ihau-born Ronnie Kaohelaulii took home Kauai's top spot. Hiroshi Okada of Japan came in first in the Richard Ho'opi'i Leo Ki'eki'e Contest on Maui. And Bill Wynne of New Jersey topped Oahu's Falsetto Contest. This diverse mix of winners shows the perpetuation and endurance of Hawaiian falsetto singing. Price includes shipping & handling (continental US & Hawaii).
